Here at Smiles 4 Life Pediatric Dentistry, we want our patients to have healthy, beautiful smiles. If your child’s tooth has suffered severe damage, a dental crown may be necessary to provide protection for the tooth. Our skilled dental team can show you how simple a dental crown treatment can be for your child.
Pediatric Dental Crown Treatment
We want you and your child to feel your best, and we make every effort to get you the care you need. Our patients sometimes need dental crowns for one of the following reasons:
- A misshapen tooth that affects the child’s bite.
- Your child needs a root canal, and the tooth needs a dental crown for protection.
- A tooth is severely broken.
- The child’s tooth has suffered from severe decay.
- A tooth is severely discolored or stained, and teeth whitening won’t work.
As a parent, you may wonder why a baby tooth would need a dental crown. We know that a baby tooth will eventually fall out, but if a tooth is decaying or infected, the infection can spread to adult teeth. A dental crown can not only help your child keep the tooth for a few more years, but it can safeguard your child’s adult teeth as well.
The Dental Crown Process
When we recommend a dental crown, we’ll schedule an appointment with you to get started on any repair work that needs to be done. At that appointment, we take an impression of your child’s tooth, so a dental crown can be custom-fitted to your child’s smile.
Once the lab is done making the crown, we’ll call you back into the office and check to make sure your dental crown fits well. The dentist will then place the crown with permanent bonding, and your child can share a pain-free, brilliant smile!
